Microsoft has now entered into a new phase in how it handles updates to its Windows operating system. They are referring to it as "Windows as a service". One of these versions was causing SecureTG to present a black screen after login and shut down. Microsoft has identified the issue with Windows 10 version 1803, Build 17134.950 and have since released two newer versions to resolve the problem. If you have any immediate concerns, we encourage you to contact us.
If you are currently using SecureTG (STG) on any version of Windows prior to Windows 10 and, if you you plan on updating to Windows 10, or have recently done so, please be advised that your current SecureTG.exe may not work with your version of Windows 10 if it is Version 1803 Build 17134.950 due to a bug in that build.
If you upgraded to a later version of Windows 10 (1809 or 1903), then no STG changes are required. If you have not yet run your STG under Windows 10, we recommend that you do so, especially if you have deployed STG to your clients. They may be using various versions of Windows and their copy of STG may work fine on some machines and not others depending on the Windows 10 version and build they are using.
Some machines may be set to automatically run Windows updates while others are updated manually. These Windows updates vary among our STG customers. We recommend that you notify your STG users and have them test their copy of STG in advance of any scheduled test events. The table below lists the Windows version, build numbers and the version of STG that works with each. More about Windows updates here..
The SecureTG.exe "Date modified" information can be found by r-clicking on the SecureTG.exe file > Properties > select the Details tab.. SecureTG.exe, modified date: 6.14.2019 can be used with Windows 10 prior to version 1803 or with later Windows 10 versions, 1809 or 1903.
If you are currently using SecureTG.exe, modified date 11.24.2018 with any version of Windows other than Windows 10 v.1803, you will need a new copy of SecureTG.exe. This is the only file change needed; the other two files, SecureTG.ini and SecureTGDLL.dll remain the same.
STG, Date modified 6/14/2019 has been tested with Windows 10 versions 1809 and 1903. We have not experienced any problems with either.
If you regularly perform Windows updates--newer than Windows version 1803--we recommend using SecureTG.exe, 6.14.19. If you aren't sure which Windows version you have, you can type winver into the Start search field or open a command line, type it in and click Enter. If you are currently using SecureTG.exe, 11.24.18, please contact us and we will send you a download link to the newer, Windows 10-compatible SecureTG.exe file . We will continue to test and evaluate STG against newer Windows 10 builds and update this page and provide notifications through our eblasts. We don't anticipate any further issues now that Microsoft has fixed the problem.
